I'm Jon Grishpul, co-founder of GreatBuildz. I grew up working alongside my grandfather, an electrical contractor, and since 2019 GreatBuildz has helped more than 2,000 California homeowners find and hire vetted contractors. Helping homeowners compare, check and understand bids has always been part of that work. These tools put it in your hands, client or not.
Why it's free
GreatBuildz is paid by contractors, and only when a homeowner hires one we introduced. Homeowners never pay us. Using these tools doesn't put you on a call list, and we'll only help you find a contractor if you ask.

Is it really free? What's the catch?
Yes, it's free. GreatBuildz earns a fee from contractors, and only when a homeowner hires one we introduced. Using a tool doesn't sign you up for anything, and nobody will call you.
Who sees what I enter?
Only what each tool needs to do its job, and it's stored securely while it works. We never share your files, searches or contact details with anyone, including the contractors involved. We may email you a short follow-up or two about that tool, and you can unsubscribe at any time. The newsletter is separate, and only if you tick its box.
Will my contractors know I used this?
No. We never contact them, and nothing you enter or receive goes back to them.
Do I have to use them in order?
No. Each tool works on its own. They line up with the stages of a project, so most people use the one that matches where they are today.
Does it work outside California?
Yes. A few things, like dollar figures and the state's limit on deposits, follow California rules and show up only for California projects. Our contractor matching only covers California, and the tools are open to anyone.
What if something goes wrong?
