This is where your report goes.
Helps us read the bids; nothing else.

Add your bid and the rest of the form opens: your email and the project type.

Written by AI, using a method built from real GreatBuildz bid comparisons, reviewed by our remodeling experts and tested for accuracy. It can still miss things, so check every figure against your original bid or bids before you sign anything.

    How it works

Bid Check doesn't judge the price. One bid can't show whether a price is high or low. It shows what the bid says, and what it doesn't.

    1. Upload your bidA PDF, or photos of its pages. Up to 25 MB and 40 pages.
    2. It gets checked against a listA checklist for your project type: demolition, permits, each trade, materials, fixtures, cleanup, warranty, plus the paperwork and terms.
    3. Get the report by emailA PDF that shows what the bid covers, what looks missing or vague, and what to ask next.

    What you get

A PDF report and a short email. This is a sample for a fictional bathroom bid.

    Sample report

What this bid covers, and what to ask

    • Demolition and haul-away CoveredListed as its own line.
    • Permits and inspections Not mentionedAsk whether they are included and who pulls the permit.
    • Tile VagueAn allowance (a placeholder budget) with no dollar figure. Ask for the amount and who buys the tile.
    • Plumbing fixtures CoveredListed, with the supplier named.
    • Cleanup Not mentionedAsk what cleanup is included.
    • Payment schedule CoveredTied to milestones, with the deposit stated.

    Questions to ask this contractor

    • Is the permit fee in this price?
    • What is the tile allowance, in dollars?
    • What does cleanup include?

The report also lists items to include in the next bid, so a second bid can be compared with this one.

The sample report below is a fictional example. The contractor and the bid are made up.

    Who's behind it

    Built by the GreatBuildz team

I'm Jon Grishpul, co-founder of GreatBuildz. I grew up working alongside my grandfather, an electrical contractor, and since 2019 GreatBuildz has helped more than 2,000 California homeowners find and hire vetted contractors. Reading bids for what they leave unsaid has always been part of that work. Bid Check does it for a single bid.

    Why it's free

GreatBuildz is paid by contractors, and only when a homeowner hires one we introduced. Homeowners never pay us. Using this tool doesn't put you on a call list, and we'll only help you find a contractor if you ask.

    Questions homeowners ask

Is it really free? What's the catch?

Yes, it's free. GreatBuildz earns a fee from contractors, and only when a homeowner hires one we introduced. Using a tool doesn't sign you up for anything, and nobody will call you.

Does it tell me if the price is fair?

No. One bid gives no baseline, and we don't have reliable prices outside California. Bid Check looks at scope, allowances, paperwork and terms, then gives you questions to ask.

    What files work?

PDFs, or photos (JPG, PNG, HEIC) of the pages, up to 25 MB and 40 pages each. Scanned PDFs work when the text is sharp. A photo too blurry to read gets a message before you upload, asking for a sharper picture or a scan.

    Who sees my bid?

The AI that writes your report reads it, and it's stored securely while it works. We never share your bid or your contact details with anyone, including the contractor who wrote it. We may email you a short follow-up or two about that tool, and you can unsubscribe at any time. The newsletter is separate, and only if you tick its box.

Is what I enter used to train AI?

No. Keeping your information private and secure is a top priority for us. What you enter is stored securely, never shared, and never used to train any AI model.

I have a second bid. What now?

Use BidCompare AI. It lines up two to six bids side by side, with every bid adjusted to the same scope.

    Is this legal advice?

No. Bid Check doesn't review contracts or give legal advice. Where a rule applies, like California's limit on deposits, it points to the rule so you can confirm it with the source.

    Does it work outside California?

Yes. A few things, like dollar figures and the state's limit on deposits, follow California rules and show up only for California projects. Our contractor matching only covers California, and the tools are open to anyone.

    What if something goes wrong?

Reply to the email you get and a person will help.

    Ready when you are.

Free, no account to create, and no sales call afterward. Your information is secure and never shared with anyone, ever.

Written with the help of AI. It can miss things, so check anything important against the original documents or the official source before you decide.
