- Tell us about your projectTick the project types. Add a sentence or two if you like. It takes under a minute.
- Download your worksheetAn editable Word document, ready on the spot and sent to your email too.
- Use it at every visitOne sheet per contractor, with your scope items as rows and an "ask before they leave" box.
What you get
An editable Word document for your contractor visits. The pages below come from a kit made for a fictional kitchen remodel in Pasadena.
- How the bid process worksHow many contractors to meet, what to have ready, how to run each visit, what to watch for while a contractor is there, and how long bids usually take.
- What to ask every contractor to put in writingA list to send after each visit, so the bids come back covering the same things.
- One worksheet per contractorA header for the company and the visit, a scope table built for your project, the questions to ask before they leave, and room for notes.
- A rough budget rangeFor California projects when you add a city or ZIP, with the source for each figure.
- A next stepWhat to do when the written bids arrive.

Who's behind it
Built by the GreatBuildz team
I'm Jon Grishpul, co-founder of GreatBuildz. I grew up working alongside my grandfather, an electrical contractor, and since 2019 GreatBuildz has helped more than 2,000 California homeowners find and hire vetted contractors. The Contractor Meeting Kit comes from the worksheets our team makes for homeowners before contractor visits.
Why it's free
GreatBuildz is paid by contractors, and only when a homeowner hires one we introduced. Homeowners never pay us. Using this tool doesn't put you on a call list, and we'll only help you find a contractor if you ask.
Questions homeowners ask
Is it really free? What's the catch?
Yes, it's free. GreatBuildz earns a fee from contractors, and only when a homeowner hires one we introduced. Using a tool doesn't sign you up for anything, and nobody will call you.
What's in the worksheet?
A one-page guide to the bid process, a list of what to ask every contractor to put in writing, and one worksheet per contractor. Each worksheet has a scope table for your project type, a short list to ask before they leave, and a notes box.
Do I need to know the answers to everything?
No. Leave anything blank. The worksheet is for the meeting itself, and the "in the bid?" and price columns are filled in later, when the written bid arrives.
Is the budget range a quote?
No. For California projects with a city or ZIP, the worksheet includes a rough range for your area and project type, with its source. Every home and every project is different, so treat it as a starting point and confirm it with contractors.
Who sees what I enter?
The AI step that tailors your scope rows reads your description. We never share it or your contact details with anyone, including contractors. We may email you a short follow-up or two about that tool, and you can unsubscribe at any time. The newsletter is separate, and only if you tick its box.
Is what I enter used to train AI?
No. Keeping your information private and secure is a top priority for us. What you enter is stored securely, never shared, and never used to train any AI model.
Does it work outside California?
Yes. A few things, like dollar figures and the state's limit on deposits, follow California rules and show up only for California projects. Our contractor matching only covers California, and the tools are open to anyone.
What if something goes wrong?
Reply to the email you get and a person will help.
Ready when you are.
Free, no account to create, and no sales call afterward. Your information is secure and never shared with anyone, ever.
Written with the help of AI. It can miss things, so check anything important against the original documents or the official source before you decide.
